Samui Airport / Taxi
Airport taxis, shared minibuses and private transfers from Samui Airport (USM) to Chaweng, Bophut, Lamai, Nathon and the whole island. Samui taxis use fixed per-car fares with no meters, so it pays to know the numbers before you land.
A shared minibus leaves when it has about five passengers and drops each in turn, reaching Chaweng from around ฿130 per person and Lamai or Nathon from ฿150 to ฿250 per person. Fixed-fare airport taxis are per car with no meters: expect about ฿200 to ฿500 to Chaweng and ฿400 to ฿500 to Lamai. A night rate adds roughly 20 to 30 percent, and you pay cash.
A private transfer is booked online in advance at a fixed price, from about ฿425 to Chaweng. The driver meets you in the open-air arrivals with a sign and takes you straight to your hotel. It is the most predictable choice for families, late arrivals and the longer runs around the island to Lamai or Nathon.

Indicative fares from Samui Airport in baht. Airport taxi fares are the fixed counter price; the transfer column is the pre-booked private price. Both are per car, not per person, and rise at night and in high season.

For a single trip to your hotel, a fixed-fare taxi or a pre-booked transfer is simplest, and near beaches like Chaweng and Bophut the taxi is cheap. But Samui has no metered street taxis, and per-car fares to the far side of the island add up. If you plan to move around, the maths favours a car.
A no-deposit rental car from about ฿1,000 a day frees you from waiting for drivers or paying a fixed fare every time you change beach, and it lets you circle the island on the ring road. It is the reason many visitors to Koh Samui drive.
Chaweng is only about 4 km from the terminal, 5 to 10 minutes away. A fixed-fare airport taxi costs around ฿200 to ฿500 per car, a shared minibus about ฿130 per person, and a pre-booked private transfer from about ฿425. There are no meters, so fares are fixed at the counter.
Koh Samui has no cheap metered street taxis like Bangkok; airport and island taxis use fixed per-car fares set by local operators, and they are high for the distance. Many visitors pre-book a transfer for the arrival and rent a car to get around afterwards.
Yes. A shared minibus waits until it has about five passengers, then drops each in turn. It reaches Chaweng from around ฿130 per person and Lamai or Nathon from ฿150 to ฿250, the cheapest way off the airport but slower than a private car.
No. There is no public bus or songthaew service directly from Samui Airport. Your options are a shared minibus, a fixed-fare taxi, a pre-booked private transfer or a rental car picked up at the terminal.
Yes. A private transfer from Samui Airport is booked online at a fixed price from about ฿425, with the driver waiting in the open-air arrivals with a sign even if you are delayed. It is the easiest choice for late arrivals and families with luggage.
If you plan to explore beyond your resort, often yes. Samui's per-car taxi fares add up around the island, so a no-deposit rental car from about ฿1,000 a day can work out cheaper than repeated taxi runs, and it goes wherever you want.
