Krabi International Airport (KBV) is about 7 km east of Krabi Town, in the Nong Thale area, and 26 km from Ao Nang. GPS coordinates are 8.1008, 98.9847. There is no rail link, so all transfers are by road.
The IATA code for Krabi Airport is KBV and the ICAO code is VTSG. KBV is the code to use for tickets, car rental and transfers to Krabi and the Andaman coast.
Krabi Airport is run by the Department of Airports (DoA), part of Thailand's Ministry of Transport, not by Airports of Thailand (AoT), which operates Phuket, Bangkok and the country's six largest airports.
Krabi Airport handled just over 3 million passengers in 2025, up about 63 percent on 2024's 2,589,636, after 2,309,797 in 2023. It is the sixth-busiest airport in Thailand and a gateway to Ao Nang, Railay, Koh Phi Phi and Koh Lanta.
Krabi Airport has a single terminal complex split into a domestic side and an international side, sometimes labelled T1 and T2. Both are on one level and a short walk apart, run by the Department of Airports.
Ao Nang is about 26 km west, 30 to 45 minutes by road. The airport shuttle bus costs ฿150 per person, a fixed-fare airport taxi ฿500 to ฿600 per car, and a private transfer from about ฿600. A shared minivan runs around ฿150 to ฿210 per person.
Yes, an airport shuttle bus runs to both Krabi Town and Ao Nang for a flat ฿150 per person, roughly hourly from about 06:00 to 20:00. It takes 45 to 90 minutes depending on stops and is the cheapest way into town or to the beach.
Krabi airport taxis use fixed fares: about ฿350 to Krabi Town, ฿500 to ฿600 to Ao Nang and around ฿550 to Ao Nam Mao pier for Railay. Fares are per car for up to three or four passengers and can rise at night.
Yes, several companies have desks in the arrivals hall, from about ฿850 a day in low season, with no-deposit options. You need an International Driving Permit alongside your licence to drive legally in Thailand.
Yes. Foreign drivers in Thailand must carry an International Driving Permit with their national licence. Rental desks and police checkpoints can ask for both, and driving without an IDP can void your insurance.

Arrive about 2 hours before a domestic flight and 3 hours before an international one at Krabi Airport. In the November to March high season, queues at check-in and security build quickly on the compact international side.
Krabi is served by Thai AirAsia, which bases aircraft here, plus Bangkok Airways, Thai Airways, Thai Lion Air, Nok Air and Thai Vietjet domestically, and AirAsia, Firefly, Scoot, IndiGo, flydubai and Air Arabia internationally, with seasonal charters.
Railay has no road access. Take a taxi or transfer to Ao Nam Mao pier, about 30 km and ฿550 by fixed-fare airport taxi, then a longtail boat to Railay. Some visitors go via Ao Nang beach and catch a boat from there instead.
Krabi's high season is November to March, dry and sunny on the Andaman coast but busy and pricier. May to October is the monsoon, with rain, rougher seas for island-hopping and lower prices for hotels and car rental.
